The Annie Mall single is taken from One-Two’s
latest album, The Story of Bob Star. Those who look back fondly
on Tommy and Ziggy Stardust just might appreciate the power-pop
opera. This French indie duo make big vision look easy, and have
too much fun to realize just how cool they are.
The hopeful Annie Mall has a “Maneater”
vibe and hand-clapping energy accented by a staccato guitar, and
even includes a nod to the B-52’s. The second track is the
Annie Mall Radioclit Remix, which combines deep, heady beats into
a minimal reggae atmosphere. Sonic dreaminess and forlorn vocals
give the third track, Seated By The Riverside, an Eagles-esque
pathos. There is enough variety here to make everyone happy, and
Annie Mall will surely create as many smiles as it will break
hearts.
The album is already out in Germany, but
the rest of the world will have to wait until late May/early June
to follow the life and loves of Bob Star. (Angie Pardue)
